Dr. Faye Halpern’s new project spends time focusing on how some late nineteenth-century American authors who were marginalized for their gender or race used a “double-voiced” strategy to gain popularity on one hand and talk back to a prejudiced readership on the other. Faye’s previous research investigated how popular women authors of the mid-century developed strategies to combat their social marginalization and reform a nation.
