Graduate training and development opportunities
We are committed to providing the all necessary learning and development opportunities to our students
- Information sessions and workshops on library research, research and funding possibilities, methodologies and professionalization.
- My Gradskills provides professional and academic development opportunities to give you the skills you need to succeed before and after graduation.
- The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning supports the teaching development of graduate students, the integration of technology to enhance teaching and learning, and scholarly approaches to teaching, course design and curriculum development. The institute also offers a Graduate Teaching Development Badge.
- Consider taking courses thorough the Language Research Centre, e.g. LANG 599/605, Second Language Learning and Pedagogy.
- The Werklund School of Education also offers useful courses (EDER 613: Change and Innovation in Education; EDER 667: Second Language Reading and Writing; EDER 669: Aspects of Second Language and Culture; EDER 696: Special Topics in Education), as well training sessions.
- The Student Success Centre provides graduate writing workshops and a graduate coaching program.
- Free professionalization workshops are also offered through MITACS.

Reminder that the Linguistics Section Policy of TA Grading is as follows: "If an instructor has more than one TA and more than 50 students, they must grade a minimum of 30% of course requirements, otherwise a minimum of 50%."

A Higher Clause
A Higher Clause is the Linguistics Graduate Student Association committed to promoting and furthering the interests and needs of linguistics students at the Master’s and PhD level. We are the association dedicated to deepening the academic and social experience of all our graduate students.
We also help our peers find resources both on campus and in the city and organize and host events such as abstract review sessions; paper/poster presentation practice sessions; and social activities such as the GSA holiday food drive, meals at the Last Defence Lounge and Grad Fest.
Calgary (Working) Papers in Linguistics On-Line Journal
The Calgary Working Papers in Linguistics (CWPL) is an on-line publication affiliated with the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Calgary, focusing on contributions in linguistics and related disciplines, edited entirely by members of A Higher Clause.
